2003 Peugeot 307 XS review from Australia and New Zealand

"Dangerously gutless and poor build quality"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The indicator stalk over corrects and indicates in the opposite direction once the car finished cornering. The Peugeot dealer said this was a very common 307 fault.

The horn failed to work on most occasions. The dealer indicated this problem was linked to the indicator issue.

The 1.6 liter petrol engine is dangerously gutless when try to quickly get through a round-a-bout. Very slow off the mark. The 2 liter engine is much better.

The power steering system developed a major leak and the whole unit needed replacing. I had to wait 2 weeks for the part to arrive from France. No car for 2 weeks!

Believing this particular car was a dud, I traded it and bought a brand new 2liter 307. After just 2 weeks it also has the indicator problem and has a fading, unreadable computer screen. I am now thinking that maybe the 307 model is a dud, after my experience and after reading your reviews.

Most of the car is plastic, including the front guards and under-body guards. Not built to last, and scratches very easily.

My nearest Peugeot dealer is a 1.5hr drive. I am getting used to making the long trip!

Costly, premium unleaded only can be used in the car.

I find the car a bit awkward to get in/out of and I have bumped my head several times. (I am not that tall 6')

2 liter model has poor economy (11 litres/100km in city) but much more power. 1.6 liter model has better economy, but is dangerously gutless.

General comments?

Attractive looking car. Very spacious inside, particularly the boot.

Kids have lots of leg room. Comfortable seats. This is a real "gadget" car.

Probably a very safe car in an accident. 6 airbags, ABS, etc.
