Hi
I have a 406 turbo engine in my 205 and it is very fun to say the least, but would like to tune it, but having trouble finds parts like cam etc. so if any one could help me I would be very grateful
Thanks.
Morning All.
I'm about to check out an 406 2.0 sri which has over 100k miles on it. The seller says its not turbo, but I presumed all 2.0 sri's were turbo'd. Afaik the 2.2 isn't turbo'd.
Can anyone shed any light on this!
Also what sort of problems should I look to get sorted as a matter of urgency for a car with high miles.
Do the brembo brakes from the coupe fit straight on.
Cheers.
Paul.
I've just bought a 97 406turbo and it will only rev to about 5000 revs, I've been in another 406 turbo and it's a lot quiker plz help I've tried turning boost up, but that also only reads 0.4 b.

Well I've read all these comments some r totally 1 sided so here my 2 pence. when we talk about cossie v 406 im almost certain if we brought the 406 up to cossie standard im sure they would be almost identical. all being said theres a few factors i. e the drivers, weather or not the cossie was 4x4 or not.but that where it stops. now on the reliability side im almost certain the pug would be the stronger of the two. and all being said and done the cossie is 16 valver after all. Hello
I'm currently putting a 406 turbo lump into my 205 cti.
Engines in etc, just hit the dilemma of the wiring!!!
I've traced all the 205 engine loom, now I've gotta make it correspond with the 406 engine loom..
Any advice???
The 406 exec went well when I got it, so hoping it will go even better in the 205.
I have a 205 with the 406 turbo engine in, it is so much fun! scoobies have a hard time keeping up! the spec is :
boost at 13psi - omp exhaust - induction kit - custom alloy boost pipes - front mount intercooler! im hoping for 200 BHP!the work was done by spoox components, they know everything about pugs and are very reasonable price wise!!

I've been doing some reading and sourcing some bits for my SRi engine. It seems that a decrease in compression ratio is needed for safer bigger turbo applications. So a quick and easy method for this is to use the top end from a 205 GTi, cat version obviously, this includes throttle body and inlet manifold. And using the Turbo Technics exhaust manifold and a vat 28 turbo from Garrett brand spanker, and as much trim as possible.
I have a spare diesel crank that will be used to increase stroke, which means a skim off the pistons to keep them flat with the deck, aluminum flywheel. Get rid of those standard intake and boost pipes, and purchase some Mandrel bent items.
Gearbox wise I will be using GTi-6 internals fitted inside an mi16 box, with 4.4 final drive 4x4 transfer box to the 4x4 diff aftermarket intercooler. With the other mods I should see a healthy gain in air flow and smoothness. And when the cash comes rolling in, an Omex ECU will be adopted and various cry02 items shall be used & water injection and water to intercooler spray bar. All this is for a 306 sedan project.
Hi, I've got a 306 d turbo to which I'm going to fit a 406 SRi turbo engine, as diesels just don't go fast enough for my liking. I bought it just to get my missus insured on, but now she is after her own car, so it's play time for me.
I don't know if I'm after Cossie or Scooby killing power, but would like to run maybe in the region of 200 bhp, so it would give cars like Tomcat turbos and red top Corsas or VXR Corsas a hard time, but have been told the standard blocks are just weak or phrased as a chocolate block that just melts under heat. Could anyone please tell me if this is true?
Reading Cosworth v 406 is funny, obviously both 1 sided! But I love the Cossies, especially the sierra! But I will say the Escort is a nightmare to drive around town; impractical, and 1 pot calipers say it all. I was upset too! 220bhp with a turbo and all the mods out the factory isn't a lot. The 406 is designed for everyday use and does a good job of it too! And just by upping the boost you can achieve 190 bhp maybe 200! No mods!! This is why I've bought this engine for my 205, but want to tune it to get more torque and top end power. Can any body help thanks!!!
Also there's a 138 bhp SRi out there. How do I know my engines the 155 bhp version? Thanks.

Any one know where I can get a wiring loom for the engine on a 406, so I can get it in a 205?
Hi I can't believe any of you are saying that the 406 engine is anywhere near that of the Cossie; there is no comparison, the Cossie wins hands down on everything, and I'm a pug GTi-6 owner and the engines are like bars of chocolate near a fire. I would not trust any of these engines with anywhere near 200 bhp. My advice is to get a different car if you wanna go fast, simple as that!
I've got a 406 SRi turbo that's 199 bhp just with more boost. Just had the turbo done up with 360 bearing and a t28 wheel, and I'm hoping that it will be around 230 bhp. I will soon find out, but can anyone tell me where I can get the ECU sorted out, because there's no point modding a 406 as the ECU won't let you use the extra power, so I've been told; a chip won't work, it will just reset itself.

In association to the chocolate engine of the SRi is cods wallop, this is usually the result of amateurs doing the wrong mods to get the most out of the standard setup. A simple remap will see 200bhp easy, bigger injectors and larger aftermarket intercooler will see 220, again no problem. After this the standard intake and turbo manifold are useless; there are upgrades that can be done, but for the money that it will cost you might asw ell buy a turbo technics manifold and stick on a decent t25 turbo or bigger.
As for the question about which engine is which, well the higher bhp engine has dished pistons and I'm not sure of the engine code; think it might be RGX, the other is RGY, or it could be vice versa. I've been told that a simple upgrade is to use either the 306 XSi cam or the 205 GTi cam depending on what your turbo characteristics are.
Hi all, never knew there was this much interest in this engine LOL! According to DP Engineering, the stock bottom end can take 300 brake! They also sell wiseco pistons, decent manifolds, rods and basically everything needed to get over 500 brake from this engine, however, it's not cheap! They also do decompression plates.
These engines are great. They are of the xu variety, so most parts can be swapped from one to another. For example I'm using my xu10j2te to mate my mi16 head to. Obviously I will have to shove in an extra tensioner, but there doesn't seem too be too much of an issue. Pistons will need to be completely dished as I want to build a t16 look a like, gti-6 heads can even be mated using an mls head gasket.
