2001 Peugeot 406 GLX Estate review from UK and Ireland
"Roomy and comfortable, but slow and very expensive to maintain"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Inner door seal pulled away from fixings at bottom (it is easily caught when getting out).
Instrument panel died completely-no speedometer, tachometer, fuel guage or temperature guage.
Indicator switch shorted causing random indicating initially and ending up with permanently operating indicators even when switch was central (off).
Head gasket blew at 67000 (still waiting to be repaired).
General comments?
The car is comfortable and is very roomy.
The fuel consumption is reasonable as it is a diesel (typically averaging about 47 mpg).
The servicing is expensive especially the major service requiring a cam belt change which costs £400 alone.
After only 67000 miles the head gasket blew which is going to cost a minimum of £920 to repair.
