2001 Peugeot 406 Rapier estate review from UK and Ireland
"Not bad at all, but could do with more engine power"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Various squeaks & rattles from interior.
Apart from that reliability was faultless in the 35,000 & 2 years I ran it as a company car.
General comments?
The engine was gutless (90 bhp).
It was a good motorway car, being very quiet & had a very good ride quality.
Although the interior was dark, with black used everywhere (it even had black 'wood' inserts) it had a quality feel, especially with the chrome-bezelled instruments that were lifted from the 406 coupe.
The handling was exemplary.
As hard as I tried, I couldn't get the fuel consumption to fall below 38mpg.
I especially liked the climate control with digital display; set & forget.
The seats were resonably comfortable, although they could have done with more support & a centre arm-rest would have been nice.
The so-called automatic windscreen wipers were a joke -you had to initiate them to start with & they never wiped at the correct speed to match the amount of rain hitting the windscreen.
The automatic headlamps were annoying in that they'd come on as you went under bridges -other drivers thought I was flashing them.
The sound system was very good.
