1996 Peugeot 406 Executive review from UK and Ireland

Radiator cooling fans have failed and have had to be replaced. (82,000 miles)

Exhaust has been replaced twice. (Once due to second not being fitted properly)

Blower fan (cabin air) sometimes fails, but works again after an hour or so. (I think it's just temperamental.)

The bracket holding the fuel tank to the body was very badly corroded and had to be replaced at 98,000 miles

The front suspension arm is a weak spot in the Peugeout 406. Running the car into kerbs should be avoided.

Usual maintenence - brake pads, filters etc.

Our Peugeot 406 is generally a comfortable car to drive. I don't like the front headrests as they would offer no protection from whiplash at all and I would replace them with the ones in the later model if I could get some that matched the seat trim. Apart from this, the car is a very comfortable car to drive.

I think that our Peugeot is a very reliable car, the only time it has failed us is when the battery died due to my partner leaving the lights and A/c on for 20 minutes with the engine off.

Last year, I drove it down to Rome. On the way down, it was a 17 hour non stop trip and for the last 7 hours - 38 degree heat. Inside, the climate control kept the cabin at a comfortable 19.5 degrees. The only problem we had on the outbound journey was a blown tyre. (This wasn't the car's fault.) On the return journey, the car once again performed perfectly.

Our peugeot 406 has a cruising speed of about 90mph. It will comfortably cruise faster, but the engine will become a bit noisier. Although it has a soft suspension, it handles well.

I would definitely recommend this model of 406. Our car has always been serviced regularly throughout it's life with oil changes every 6 months. It's important to look after your car to avoid faults and maintenance issues.
