1991 Plymouth Acclaim review from North America
"Surprisingly NOT that BAD!...even reliable. DULL!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Bouncy ride. Windshield washer fluid warning light alwyas on.
AC getting week.
General comments?
I want expecting much. I drove KCARS, OMNIS, and the horrible Sundances, even crappy Lasers and the Stealth, all left a poor impression of the Chrysler product.
An old man down the street sold the Acclaim to me at 30,000 miles for $500, in mint condition. It's now at 130,000.
I only replaced brakes.
My wife drives it. It is now poorly maintained. One oil change in the last 50 000, but I do top it up. I want expecting much. I don't like it. It is slow, dull, handles poorly.
It has a bigger car feel on the inside. It is like a well made K Car. It IS a well made K Car. Cheap, poor design, but
well assembled.
I have to admit here is is very reliable, to my surprise. My mechanic 'OK', to my surprise. I thought we'd have blown them gasketssaid they were or the tranny by now and we could scrap it for a nice old Caddy or Lincoln, but alas it runs strong.
Even the tape deck works. The AC is pretty week now.
I get the impression that this was a reliable model overall, but Chrysler went on to make some real crap in the 90s, like the Intrepids, Neons etc.
If this one hits a big repair, Ill go out and buy another car. They are cheap!
