Yeah, I have had all the same problems and more.
My Radio has been out for about 2 years and spazes in and out.
My tranny has gone out 3 times most recently 2 weeks ago.
AC has hardly ever worked.
Wiper problem has happened too.
Makes strange sounds from the seats, body, engine, fuse box, and dash board constantly.
CD Changer just decided to smoke and break.
Starter replaced 4 times.
Battery replaced twice.
Radiator Totally replaced.
Ignition problems, Car will not use turn signals, wipers, windows etc... have to turn back key partially to have them work.
ABS Light and Check Engine Soon lights almost always on.
Belts constantly replaced.
And now we have a new problem, locks won't work, engine won't turn on at all, makes weird noises inside and out and dashboard no longer lights up. Battery will not take a jump start.
Thanks to everyone, I just put deposit down, I am going to show all this to break the contract. You may of saved my teenage driver's life... THANK YOU.
Betty
My mother bought a 96 Plymouth Grand Voyager too. Same crap that I've read on here. Just put a new cooling fan assembly in it a few days ago for $220+. Then timing belt broke on her way to work. Major pain to replace the belt. As soon as I get it going again its going bye bye. Everyone I have known that bought a Chrysler product said they never got the vaseline it should have came with and will never buy another one. This is one vehicle that should have been pulled from production and recalled.

OMG~~~~~~~
what should I do
i got magical wiper before too
belt broken once too.
Recently the car just keep stalling
and I just went rebuild the transmission last last week
even went back dealership to check, After their 100$ test, they say NO PROBLEM AT ALL!!!
BUT THE CAR STILL STALLING!!!
Need keep trying to restart the engine, and like after 10 minutes tryinng... it will works... and drive for 3 minutes... it went off again...
Sigh.
I own a 96 Voyager. I have replaced 4 times the transmission. 2 under warranty and 2 on my own.
This is my second Voyager, the first one a 1988. Same problems transmission, oil consuption...
My recommendation to any one shopping for a Van is to look for a Japanese one. They seem to last for ever.
Just wanted to know if anyone has had this problem with the Grand Voyager SE. My minivan is a 1997 and even though the gas tank is full, my fuel light and signal go on and off while I'm driving. Now this does not happen when the car has not been driven overnight. When I drive to work in the morning it doesn't happen, but when I go to lunch the fuel light and signal go on and off at least 10 times on a 7 minute drive. Not only does the it go on and off, but the fuel needle will fluctuate as well. The car rides fine when this happens, but the chiming of the signal is annoying. Can anyone give me an idea of what the problem might be?
Thanks,
Ty Monroe.
It would help a lot to be able to post remedies for these Plymouth Voyager problems. You may consider adding such a feature.
Wow, I too am kicking myself for not reading these before buying our '96. It had 110,000 miles on it and the engine seems to run great, and we loved the double doors (our previous '93 had only one) and we got it very cheap. We just had the transmission replaced at 120,000 miles (so much for getting it cheap), and it appears this is a sign of things to come! The wipers do the phantom thing also, and the radio was acting crazy so it has been replaced and is working fine now. I am putting breaks on it today (our '93 went through brakes like crazy too). Maybe I should sell it while it is still running...
Hmmm...
My wife and I bought a 96 grand voyager with 70,000. It now has 95,000. We've got the phantom wiper problem, replaced the speed output sensor twice!, the water pump, the engine fan assembly, etc. Hey, by the way, I absolutely love the integrated child car seats.
Wow, I've had a 96 Gr. Voyager and had problems from the start. Read your comments and have to agree with the phantom wiper problem! Tried to fix the problem with a new switch assembly. No...wasn't it. Later, the back wipers were going randomly also. Tried a new body control module. That was the problem! $600.00 later! We have a 4th body control module now. The original one must've messed up various components in the vehicle. Don't need to go there, you get the idea. Besides a blown battery from the original body control module, which caused many bucks to fix from the acid damage, the mini-van has it's 3rd transmission WITH the addition of the costly adapter to correct the flaw that caused the transmission problems in the first place. When I bought the car, it had a neon gas tank in it! Where did that come from! Had it replaced with a correct one. Shop forgot to replace the seals. Not only do I have damage to my garage from the acid from the blown battery, I have gasoline stains from the handiwork from the Chrysler dealer. You know, I think I bought this car over again in repairs. We've replaced window motors that won't shut off, many, many blown lights, replaced the tension pulley for the belt after a couple of belts, air conditioner needed work, fuel pump. The only good thing about this car is the engine. It has had many reasons to act up and it just won't quit. I have a hate relationship with this car. I will never buy a Chrysler again. Anyone want a used minivan? cheap!
Transmission failure seems to be a problem across the entire Chrysler minivan line... and across many model years as well. My parents own a 1993 Grand Caravan that my mother and father liked very much, but it still had its share of problems. Two major transmission repairs (and to this day that thing still shifts like a bull in a china shop). Major electrical problems: Windshield wipers, radio, instrument panel all don't work. You don't know how fast you're going. My dad's had to put Rain-X on the windshield as a precaution (he's given up on fixing anything else... the van has 150,000 miles on it and the problem has been pegged at $600 dollars for a new electronic module...he's currently taking his time looking for a new vehicle). What you should all be made aware of is this: Chrysler's minivans have ALWAYS had transmission problems and failures. Chrysler's also KNOWN about these problems as they've plagued the minivan line from model year to model year. The only thing that keeps them roadworthy in the long run is proper maintenance like clockwork. If you don't do it, these vans can be downright deadly. With maintenance, you'll get 150,000 miles, but you'll still have niggling to major problems.
You do know that 90% or so of all the minivan failures (in the Chrysler lineup) are due to using the wrong transmission fluid right? and then the others are due to over heating which is the normal cause in automatics. we have Neon's and one of them is an automatic and while my sister was in college one of her friends put in Dextron III transmission fluid and then from then on it began to not disengage and all that other crap so when she came back home I changed the fluid to "Type 7176/ATF+3" and it worked fine from then on and that transmission now has over 200,000 on it. so just make sure you put in the correct fluid and it should be fine.
My '96 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE has not had the most of the problems talked about. The transmission has been replaced, but the other problems I have are strange.
Occasionally over the years the vehicle simply won't start. I turn the key and nothing. No starter engagement, no clicking, nothing. However, there is power which is the strange thing. All of the vehicle electrical accessories function, but when I try to start it...nothing. Generally I just wait anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, try again, and it starts. This has happened at all times of the year, at different times of the day and over all weather conditions. Occasionally, but not as often, the vehicle actually stalls while I'm driving. I (and my parents who owned the vehicle prior to me) have had the van into the dealership numerous times, but it is always working and they can't troubleshoot it.
The problems just started again this past weekend after a relatively long period of no trouble. Yesterday it happened again, but this time the vehicle didn't start after more than two hours. I'm going to try again this morning and if it doesn't work then it'll be towed to a dealership. I'm actually hoping it is still malfunctioning so the techs can troubleshoot.
I also recently encountered similar types of problems as discussed above. I have a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager and recently tried to start it up and it wouldn't start. I used a jumper cable and after waiting about 15 minutes with the cables attached, it finally started. I ran it for about 10 minutes in my driveway before I took it onto the street. Initially it was sluggish and the transmission felt like it was "slipping" occasionally. Also the speedometer was not working.
While still driving, after about 20 minutes, the electrical system seemed to go "haywire". All the circuits started flashing, there was buzzing noises, but miraculously, the speedometer now started to work. Also I experienced the wiper blades swinging back and forth even though I did not turn them on.
I then went to the park to pick up my daughter. I parked it, but left the motor running afraid that it would not start again. After about 5 minutes in idle, the engine all of a sudden stopped. No lights, no radio, no anything. Tried to restart it, but nothing would happen. Battery or electrical system seemed completely dead. Luckily I got a jump start from someone and car again seemed to run okay.
Next I dropped my daughter home and went to the gas station to fill up gas. After filling up gas I was leaving the station and turned my steering wheel extremely sharp to the right to enter the road. At this point, the car just completely shut down, no lights, no anything. Again was fortunate to get a jump start from a passer by.
Started to drive away normally and stopped at a traffic light just down the road. When the light turned green, I started to move into the intersection. As I was in the middle of the intersection, the car AGAIN just completely shut down. I quickly got out and with the help of a passerby, got the car to the side of the road.
I got yet another jump start from an emergency road service truck who happened to be passing by. This time I made it back to home (5 miles) without any further mishaps. Don't know if it was a coincedence or not, but the last two times that the car stalled, I had just received a call on my cell phone from my wife. Freaky stuff. Needless to say, this car is going to the junk yard. I doubt any one would give me anything, even for a trade in on this lemon. Good luck to anyone who decides to keep their minivan.
I wish I had come read the remarks before I purchased my 97 Plymouth Grand-caravan SE. I just had a trans problem... hope it holds. But know my back up light don't work. I have replaced the bulbs with no luck and now don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
