1986 Plymouth Reliant LE Cpe. review from North America
"It's a good, basic type of a car that is virtually indestructable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
From the time I got it new in 1986 until the time it went after 207,000 miles, an assortment of things went wrong with the car. Nothing too serious with the exception of replacing the gas tank at 30,000 miles.
General comments?
I loved that car! However, at 30,000 miles, the gas tank was punctured by some stones that got at it while I was riding on the New Jersey Turnpike at the time while I was on a road trip to New York City. My Plymouth dealer replaced it free of charge. The car ran great even when the odometer read 200,000 miles. The reason for it to die after 207,000 miles was that the transmission finally went on it. Yes, the transmission was the original one. Plus, I was ready for a new car. As for roominess, that it was for a 2 door car. Would I recommend of these? Sure would, if you can find parts for these cars, and if you like basic transportation. Parts for these cars are getting very hard to find.
So, if you like the Reliants, try to find one with average miles, or find one that was elderly owned, and taken care of.
