1992 Plymouth Voyager review from North America
"One of the most reliable cars ever made"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
At about 165000 miles, transmission fluid
started disappearing. There were no
puddles under it, or oil film on the tail
gate, but it was eating a gallon a week.
At 175773 miles, the transmission started
going forward when I put it in reverse.
It has been stuck against a log at the
end of my driveway ever since. It goes
forward, but not reverse.
At about 170000 miles, the electric
cooling fan for the radiator quit.
However, if I run the heater and stay
above 40 MPH, the engine stays cool
without needing the fan.
The A/C still works when the car is
moving at least 40 MPH.
General comments?
Other than the above mentioned problems,
this car required absolutely no
maintenance except regular oil changes
and one new set of tires.
I think I broke the transmission by
driving it up a very long, steep mountain
road. I remember smelling it burning at
the time and that's when it started eating
transmission fluid like crazy. I would
advise strongly against driving it up
long, steep roads or trying to tow a
trailer with it.
