1988 Pontiac 6000 review from North America
"Worst car I have ever driven"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Paint peeled off. Eventually left with mostly primer on the hood, roof, and trunk.
Check engine light was on constantly. Code said it was the MAP sensor, but replacing the sensor and ECU didn't fix it. Eventually I just put electrical tape over the light.
Driver's side seat was broken, and wouldn't slide properly in its tracks, so it was fixed in one position.
Transmission would slip. You had to accelerate very slowly away from a light, or else the engine would backfire.
Drivers door lock broke, and the passenger one went soon after that. Also, it was possible to start the car without a key. So any thief could have stolen this gem at any time. Yet for some reason, nobody would take it.
I'm sure there's more, but I have blacked it out of my memory.
General comments?
My grandparents purchased this car brand new in 1988. However, after they passed away in 1991 it became my first car.
Pretty much everything that could go wrong with this car did. The paint peeled off, hubcaps fell off, rust started, engine would knock and make ridiculous amounts of noise, and more. It was horribly underpowered, and despite its small size drove like an SUV.
Overall the worst car I have ever driven, and it reminds me why I'll never buy an American car.
