"Very poorly designed and made"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

All wiring is bad on doors, windows, rear release.

The engine is too small.

The sidings are falling off.

It stops without warning.

Won't go up large passes.

All around a really poor quality made car.

General comments?

At least it runs (sometimes).

I'm not a happy 6000 owner. The vehicle seems to break down too frequently and unexpectedly. For me, breaks down on an almost weekly basis. No money to go shopping, spending all money on car. Not too reliable.

I think you are wrong. You just haven't taken care of your car. I have a 1990 S/E AWD, great car, 174,000 miles and not a sign of stopping. I'm looking at a new STS and beginning to wonder if that's just a waste. I have done a few changes to the car, though. New Bose stereo (Not a easy to buy item) Leather seat fabric, on the original power seats, factory AWD is awesome for the snowy Minnesota winters. Factory power sunroof is great for warm Minnesota summers. And no mechanical problems, only a few alternators (ALWAYS tell your mechanic NOT to put used parts on) and 2 Computers (Junky used again). I've had this car 11 years and 174 thousand miles, and I'll have it another 11 years/174 thousand miles. Awesome car.

I have an 86 Pontiac 6000 and it has been a pretty good car. It has done great on road trips and has never left me stranded on the side of the road. But since the first time the car broke down, it seems like it hasn't stopped... one problem after another.

First it was the alternator, then the sensor, vacuum hoses, fuel filter, it goes on and on. I bought the car for 1,500 and I have spent more in repairs.

The car does great for travelling, but it seems to have more problems with town driving.

In conclusion, I would like to say that I like my car, but only because I feel it is safe for me and my son to ride in. I like my cars cars safety, not its performance.

Jayme.

There are a few sensitive areas in the Pontiac 6000 STE but overall a very stylish, comfortable and practical car. Especially loaded. Remember the wiring in the doors is a problem more re-occurring in cold climates and the ABS brakes in the 1986 were a prototype system. The car is worth learning about. It took on the Volvo and the BMW with a lot smaller budget. Take your mechanic to lunch, buy a service manual and a new pair of over-alls. Parts are cheap and plentiful.

You bought a high mileage car. The previous owner probably neglected it.
