1986 Pontiac 6000 LE review from North America
"Wish I could find another one in better physical shape"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Very little is wrong with this car. Over the years the regular maintenance items such as rotor, plugs, exhaust, brakes, belts etc. have been replaced.
There is a switch/relay on the transmission which tells the starter the vehicle is NOT in park which has had to be replaced a couple of times ($30 / occurrence).
After 15 years, the body and frame are badly rusting.
General comments?
Most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.
This past winter, it sat parked for 3 months while we were away. Upon our return, it first reluctantly turned twice (low battery,) then promptly fired and started right up.
The engine is still relatively perky for the mileage, but the body is rusted badly.
It has been a comfortable vehicle for both long trips and those to the grocery store due to its roomy truck and roomy interior.
Sadly, it is time to park the old 6000 due to its body condition and look for a newer vehicle. Shame since it still starts and runs well.
