1983 Pontiac 6000 STE review from North America
"Great "Touring" sedan that performs admirably"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Car had electrical maladies when new, such as alternator replacement at 500 miles and fuses, circuit, air suspension repairs.
Some oil leaks from valve covers.
Transmission and torque converter replaced at 66,000 miles.
Rear air shocks do not last and are difficult to find as original, old stock replacements.
Power steering rack replaced by manufacturer under secret, extended 50,000 mile warranty.
Still experience intermittent carburetor malfunctions and electrical gremlins.
General comments?
Though one must always monitor the car's electrical system, the 6000STE is a fine touring sedan even by today's sport sedan standards.
Highway performance superb.
Interior components elegant for a 1980s American saloon.
Understated first year exterior styling remains quite attractive, if somewhat dated.
