"Steven Segal will die before this car does"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought the car the brake and gas lines were shot.
Alternator died
Fuel Pump
Fuel Relay
Starter
Temperature sensor
Cooling fan.
The car blows a bit of oil out the back too (It's 20 years old, it is too be expected)
General comments?
This car is HANDS DOWN the best starter car, whether you are in school or working, this car will get you to where you need to go reliably.
As simple as I can put it; this car is a tank, she isn't built for speed or for looks which I think turns most people away from her, but what she lacks in those two fields she makes up for with reliability and practicality.
The only things that have gone wrong with this car are things that should have been addressed before I had the car and that were long overdue for maintenance (plus they were cheap and easy to fix and I was able to do the repairs myself). Furthermore every time something breaks on this car she always gets me home before she dies.
Example 1) I drove the car home illegally when I first bought her, I just wanted to get her into my garage so I could get to work getting her up too snuff. I didn't realize that the break lines were in as rough shape as they were. I drove 30k and my baby got me home, the brake lines snapped only after I got into my garage (the stain is still there too prove it)
2) My alternator died and my battery was out of juice on the home from school one night, the car stalled once on the off ramp of the highway. I turned her over to see if she would start, the starter cranked once and the car didn't start. I thought I was SOL so I called everyone I knew for a ride home, no one answered the phone. So I gave my baby some sweet talking and turned the key again. 2 cranks later my car was roaring and ready to go. She had no energy left though, I drove home at 10 pm with no headlights or interior lights on, but she didn't stall again until I was in my driveway.
I've kicked the crap out of this car and she refuses to die. I've gone camping with four people in my car and a boat strapped to the roof for a 10 hour drive (there and back) and she took it like a champ. I abuse her as she keeps on kicking; free of problems.
I have nothing bad to say about this car. The trunk is huge, is has a lot of passenger space and it is cheap to run. The ride is very smooth given its age and the steering/handling is great. It is a great winter car and it is REALLY cheap on insurance. Since she is so old too you don't have to worry about it getting banged up or broken into.
Parts are easy to come by and are inexpensive for the most part as well.
I would recommend this car to ANYONE who is in need of a reliable comfortable and practical ride.
