Tires had to be replaced at 32,000 miles. At 48,000 they are already showing wear and will need to be replaced again soon.
Immediately following the expiration of the warranty, the wheel sensor went and cost $550 to be replaced.
At 48,000 miles the vehicle started to ride rough, but a diagnostic did not find any problems. At around 48,500 the car stopped moving, unable to lock into any gears. The mechanic is recommending a new transmission and says that the current transmission was probably faulty from the beginning. Has anyone else had problems with their transmission, please email me: mindygullo@yahoo.com
Since I purchased this car I have gotten to know a lot of mechanics so my advice to anyone thinking of buying one is, "If you must have the comfort, space and gadgets this vehicle offers, be sure to buy a good extended warranty to pay for all the problems it is sure to have"
It's comfortable and has a lot of space.
I love all the gadgets.
I am very disappointed in the reliability of the vehicle. I would sell the car immediately if I could keep it running long enough and if I could actually find somebody willing to buy it for even a tenth of what I purchased it for and put into it since.
At just over 40k miles the transmission just quit working in any gear after stopping at a stop light. Trying to be on top of maintenance I just had the transmission flushed 550mi prior to and less than one week before the failure. I am told I need a new transmission.
(64000 miles) The service engine light came on and the transmission started shifting hard and started kicking in and out of overdrive. I took it to the shop and they replaced the speed sensor assembly in the transmission. They also reprogrammed PCM with updated calibration. They said it was ready for pick up so I picked it up after business hours. The transmission is still not shifting correctly and does not want to shift into overdrive. It will shift into overdrive sometimes. Its better, but far from repaired correctly. The service engine light is still on. This looks like the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
I just had the transmission on my 2001 Aztek GT quit this weekend. Just hit 70K miles and it died. Had extended warranty thru an aftermarket company (SmartChoice2000) that I didn't realize when I purchased it, wasn't actually a GMAC warranty (try reading all the paperwork when you buy a car) -- well, SmartChoice2000 filed for bankruptcy in 2003 (news to me) and I'm about to be out $2,800 for a new transmission. Lovely. The dealership won't honor the warranty.
My 2001 Pontiac Aztek GT AWD stopped moving and won't move forward or in reverse. It had to be towed to a GM Dealer who stated there are gears in the transmission pan so I need to have the transmission rebuilt for around $2800.00 or have it replaced with a new one for $4000.00. I bought it as a demo in 2001 and when it broke down it only had 40600 miles on it and had oil changes done every 3 to 4 thousand miles. I'm still talking with GM to see if they will fix it even though it's not under warranty any longer.
2001 Aztec A.W.D. with 50000 miles. Rotors went at the same time as original brake pads. Right rear knuckle replaced. 2 sets of tires worn out. Differential humming, quoted $7000.00 to replace, told no fix available, but told by dealer to try synthetic oil to lessen hum. Called G.M. and was told these are all maintenance problems. First and last G.M. car.
I purchased my 2001 Aztek in January of 2005 with a 30 day warranty. The dealership replaced the started within the 30 days and put the headlight back in when it fell out. Just past the 30 days I tried the air conditioning. Just blew hot air, but the dealer put in a new condenser at no charge. Shortly after that, the gas gauge quit working. I can't afford to fix that so I'm just keeping track of my mileage, but now the heater fan switch isn't working in the first three speeds. It is also very noisy around the doors as they are not tight. I like diving the car except I'm a little nervous as I don't know what is going to happen next.
