1993 Pontiac Bonneville SLE review from North America
"Bonneville SLE 240,000 miles"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Things that I have fixed:
1. Water leak in driver door (molding).
2. Fuel leak under left rear tire (sending unit).
3. Transmission mount
4. Ball joint (left).
5. 2 hub assemblies.
6. Heater fan.
7. Hollowed cat.
8. New hood (painted with black Jaguar paint) all I had.
9. New struts.
10. Coolant leak (some fitting going to the water pump from the block. Was plastic I replaced it with metal).
Thing that are still broken:
1. Radiator fan won't kick on. (doesn't overheat).
2. Twilight sensor is broken.
3. Spring under the hood doesn't work (to open the hood is a two man job).
4. The alignment is really bad.
General comments?
I bought the car in a pinch. I had wrecked my Jetta Trek and needed a new ride. I bought her rust free for $400 (friend was helping me out).
It's a SLE, which isn't much different from an SE or an SSE - there's no sunroof. But it does have the center console with the shift stick on the floor and leather seating with front buckets.
This car doesn't handle like my Jetta, but it dose very well for its size. I just replaced the struts and noticed it handles a little better. My alignment is still really off and my tires have no more meat on them. So once I fix that it should handle better.
For its "get up an go" it's pretty nice. 174 hp and 230lbs of torque gets the 3500lb boat from nought to 60 in 8.6 seconds.
I noticed a big drop in power of the school semester. I thought the engine was finally going since it has 240k miles. It turned out to be the catalytic converter was clogged up. So I hollowed it out. Now the thing's doing 0 to 60 in 7.9 seconds. NO LIE.
Catalytic converters do nothing, but slow your car down and cost you a new engine down the road.
Well anyways, this car doesn't leak or burn any oil; I change it every 3k. For a Pontiac it's a tank and will probably run till 300k.
My friends nicknamed the car "The Bonnerville"
