Paint is flaking off the roof. Makes me wonder if anyone else is having trouble with GM paint on 1998 Bonnevilles etc.?
Clunking sound in rear, like a bad shock, almost since the car was first purchased. I am the original owner.
Seats are uncomfortable for taller type person (I'm 6'1''). Head rest is at shoulder blade level. Should not hurt to sit in the driver's seat.
I have a '95 Bonneville that we bought as a program car in '96 when it has 11,000 miles on it. It has been a great car, but I am disappointed that about a year ago the paint started flaking off the roof and now it's flaking off the rear quarter panels. The body shops I've taken it to want 1800-2000 to repaint it. They say it will have to be stripped and reprimed before painting for them to warranty the job. This sounds like a problem that GM should take care of.
I would think twice before buying another one. If anyone knows who or how to get this taken care of, please email me at angmar@scottsboro.org
Thanks,
Joe
Have a 1996 Bonneville. Had the following problems:
1) Light pack failed @ ~ 20000k - replaced by the dealer.
2) New water pump @ ~70000k. My cost.
3) Upper and lower manifold seal and upper manifold replaced @ ~ 70000k. My cost.
4) Oil pan seal replaced @ ~ 70000k. My cost.
5) Air and heat controls malfunctioning @ 84000k. Have not figured out what to do about it yet - any suggestions?
6) Time and radio station display out @ ~ 50000k. Don't know what to do about it.
Have requested help from GM for my oil and antifreeze leakage problem (see recalls on manifold problems), but have been flat out refused any help.
Ask me if I NEED another Bonneville?
I also have paint peeling off the roof on my 1998 Pontiac Bonneville.
1998 Pontiac Bonneville- transmission problems x 3 times in a year (53,000 miles) ; hole in intake manifold (68,000 miles) - I'm not a mechanic, but the transmission thing really got to me. The hole in manifold may be because of overheating- there is a small plastic joint or something on the bottom driver's side of the radiator. The mechanic tells me failure of this part causes most of the radiator problems that he's seen with this car. Clock/radio/CD display- goes out every time it's hot (I'm in Florida- this means it goes out daily and doesn't come back until the AC cools the interior of the car down). Don't know how to fix that.
I have a 1997 Bonneville - My upper and lower manifold seal and upper manifold had to be replaced. My time/radio/CD display does not work properly either.
I have a 1998 Bonneville. At 53,000 miles I had to have the upper and lower intake manifold replaced. Two weeks later the engine seized up and I had to replace it with a new one. The clock/radio display quit working at about 60,000 miles, the air conditioning doesn't work properly and that isn't to mention the wheel bearings alternator, water pump and stater that I have had to replace. All of this before the body reached 65,000 miles. I have spent more on fixing this car than I paid for it. I will never by another bonneville and encourage my friends and family not to.
I have a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville SE. The car has been good for the most part, about 2 months ago I had the fuel pressure regulator replaced when I got the recall notice. That very night the car started cutting out and will just suddenly die at any speed, it feels like a miss and the info center on the dash starts dinging. Sometimes it dies and stalls sometimes it starts right up. I have had it at the dealership twice now and twice with an independent mechanic. No one can find the problem and I'm at my wits end. I no longer trust this car out of the neighborhood. Can someone please help. Has this happened to anyone else? How did you fix it?
