1987 Pontiac Fiero GT review from North America
"Go-cart on steroids for the kid in all gear-heads"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I first got this car, the seller said he believed the heads were messed up. Turned out that some of the sensors had just vibrated loose.
Currently my alternator is not working properly.
Cracked exhaust manifold.
The local GM dealership smashed my left side coolant tube.
Shifter saddle has warped badly.
General comments?
This car is like a little rocket. I have added msd coil, msd distributor, red plug wires, NGK iridium lx series plugs, a big bore holley throttle body, compucam, crank from a 3.4, ocelot exhaust system, and some stereo components.
The car handles like a go-cart on steroids; I can be going 75, jerk the wheel and the car does not slide.
There is a lot of comfort and ergonomics in the inside of the car.
I have added a set of Barrum-bravuris tires, and they are definitely a handling upgrade.
The car is a lot faster on top end than my old truck; I had a 1986 Chevy c-10 with a supercharged Pontiac 455 with a th-400 transmission.
Also if I keep my foot out of the gas pedal, I get decent gas mileage.
