1984 Pontiac Fiero 2m4 review from North America
"Great car for the price, but hard to find parts to fix it"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Well the guy that I bought it from was a pack rat, and I asked him about it, and he said he would sell it for 500 bucks; I couldn't pass up a deal like that.
When we got it home, the guy left gas in the gas tank so we has to gut the fuel tank out. We knew it ran because we put gas in the carburetor. So when we got all the hinges off of the gas tank, we found out that there was very rusty gas residing in the bottom, and the fuel pump was shot. We got the fuel pump after searching around for some time, and I was charged 50 bucks.
So we got that running and took it for a test drive. The ride was terrible, I looked at the tires and they flattened. Came to find out the guy had it sit for 15 years in the same spot. Plus the driver's side brakes froze up. Both front and back. The brakes were 50 bucks each. The wheels were 75 bucks.
Now the transmission was making a funny noise, so I moved a little gear to see if I could see what the problem was. The transmission chewed that little gear up. It was the speedometer gear and it has got to be hardest car part to find on planet earth. I still haven't found one, and it's been 2 months.
General comments?
Great car, fun to drive, but don't move any gears in the transmission.
