"Wickedly fast sports car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Headlight motors needed rebuilding. Also needed new relays for headlights.

General comments?

Rebuilt engine to 3.2 liters with high compression pistons and a mild cam. Also had performance chip, thermostat, ram air, underdrive pulley, headers, high flow catalytic converter, high flow exhaust system, and a 4.10 ratio transmission. Also has lowered suspension with new bushings, shocks, and struts. Also has front and rear swaybars. Never dynoed it, but I smoke anything that pulls up next to me. Love the mid-engine for weight transfer. Gives great traction. Handles way better than my Porsche did. Super fast, Great car.

I like Fieros, my brother has one we are more than lightly modifying, getting a complete engine rebuild with all aftermarket parts from cam to pistons to head work, Roller Rockers, stainless steel valves, headers, a complete modification of everything down to the drive-train and more, and just about all this little engine can take with the stock block as far as stress of to much Horse Power. But I have to say I don't know what kind of Porsche this Man has, but he obviously has not come up against a 951 (944) Turbo like mine. Very slightly modified (Less than 400 bucks) and this being an 86 (Not a S Model) he would have to turn 0 to 60 in at least a 5 flat to keep up and top out above 162 to pass. (149 cubes and 14psi boost, that's mild) And with the factory Koni Adjustable shocks it will pull.91 g's on a 60 ft with a fairly good tire though not top of the line at this time. A 911 I can believe he leaves it behind and maybe can out handle it, but the 44 Turbo is a sleeper and I have not even done the major upgrades yet. And on a on ramp or off ramp even with the sport seats and seat belts locked down tight it pins you against the door and sends the g's to an unheard of zone. I still like the Fiero though and we will get this one burning up the pavement very soon (2 months) and then we can report how it did with a g- Tech measuring it and hope to get it handling close to the .95 g area on a fixed course and standard circle for measurement. The porsche however will be into the low 4's by winters end and I hope the Fiero is at least into the high 5's, which is no slouch for any car, as my biggest problem with the Porsche now is wheel spin for 0 to 60 times and quarter mile times (Even leaving the line at 2200 RPM) with out going to a drag slick and that was not what the car was meant for. Just is fun to know though that it can pull those times, and the fiero will be much easier to launch. To a Later date, and no disrespect to this mans car at all. I know it probably is fast and does handle well, and for the price there is a lot of room to make it go faster and handle even better. They are a fun car that offer more performance for the money than so many others. Hope no one finds out for a while so we can still buy them cheaply!!! A V8 is the next step in the next one and it will not be your typical small block Chevy V8...

I am a real live motor head as a hobby (Big Blocks, Small Blocks, Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Kit Cars, BMW, Porsche, Alfa's, Raced everything under the sun, and did all of my own work, with body off restorations on trucks and cars, even convertibles) for about 34+ years and enjoy talking and asking questions and even helping other's out on occasion. I'm an Architectural Engineer, but never could stay away from those darn cars. Even put Ford Motors in TR 7's and other sleepers, the list goes on...

Feel free to e-mail me with legit car advice and questions if needed...

Would like to find a pair of headers though for it that are not 500 bucks like these sprint headers, way to much when just a good solid header shaped the same (OR BETTER) will make the same power or more. Even a used set at this time!!! Answers???

To answer the question about what kind of porsche I had. I had a stock naturally aspirated 1983 porsche 944 with a 5 speed. I loved that car and it had great top end power and was well balanced, but was nothing compared to my fiero. I have driven 944 turbos and they are easily modded. I have no doubt that a stock 944 turbo performs better than my fiero. 944 turbos can run to 60 in the mid 5 sec. range stock. They also have an improved suspension over the early 944s. remember 1983 was the first year for the 944.
