What didn't go wrong with this car is the issue. Proceed with caution when buying a Pontiac Grand Am. I purchased a used Grand Am SE 1 at a very reputable dealership. The car had 35,000.00 miles at the time. One year into ownership I've had to replace the water pump $500.00, the Fuel Pump $750.00. I've always had timely maintenance checks, oil changes so its through no fault of my own. Now at 100,000.00 miles and four payments left to pay, the engine is knocking and ready to blow. I've had to keep paying on the car, even though I can't drive it and I've had numerous mechanics tell me that a Twin Cam Quad 4 engine is nothing, but PROBLEMS. The car needs a new engine which I cannot afford and is sitting in my garage. I can't give it away. It's a beautiful car on the outside, but has NOTHING, but BREAKDOWNS AND PROBLEMS UNDER THE HOOD.
DO NOT BUY A PONTIAC GRAND AM AND IF YOU DO, TRADE IT IN BEFORE 65,000.00 MILES.. This seems to be the magic number where everything goes down the toilet!!! MY FORD STATION WAGON STOPPED RUNNING AT 349,000 MILES!!!
They look boring, like grandma's car... but yet they drive and drive forever!!! The get up and go of a Pontiac is great, but yet if it spends most of its time in the shop how can you enjoy it??:??
Problems I have with 01 Grand Am:
1. Passlock problems
2. Replaces 4 wheel bearings
3. Replaced rotors twice
4. Replaced fuel pump
5. Track loc problems
6. Hesitation at certain RPMs
7. Door problems
8. Check engine light on
9. Turn signal stays on
I am now a proud owner of a HONDA ACCORD...
