1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America

I recently purchacsd this car from a private dealer. I test drove the car and really liked the way it handled. I was owned by a woman so it was also very clean and well kept and I could tell it hadn't been driven roughly.

After only 3 days of ownership I experienced my first Pass-lock shut down. Fortunately I was at my own home and wasn't in a rush to get anywhere. I read through the manual and eventually the car did reset itself. This has happened to me 3 times now and I've owned the car for less than 1 month! I do not fault the previous owner so much as I fault GM. This is my only complaint about the car, but it is a major one.

I am about to take it to the dealer this weekend, but I have a feeling they will offer me an expensive fix. I would like to have my fiance try to disable it, but I am concerned that I may be worse off if this doesn't work.

Has anyone had any problems after disabling Pass-lock?

Also, I hear a lot about trying to get the government to recall the Pass-lock system. So far no one has been successful.

I work for the federal government and would be happy to send in a pile of complaints to the proper authorities. Serious safety problems could arise as a result of not being able to start your car when you need it started. (Think mom with kids, etc.)
