1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT Sedan review from North America

"I think I like this better than my Calais 442"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

From the first week that we purchased the car, it would make a gurgling sound from the overflow reservoir. Eventually the low coolant light would come on. Then came the overheating. It gave symptoms of a stuck thermostat so I replaced it. A week later, it came back. Now it's in the shop getting a cooling system flush. Hopefully that will do it. Anything else that could be the problem should be covered by our outside warranty.

The volume knob on the radio usually does the opposite of what you want it to do, so I just stick with the controls on the steering wheel.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System keeps showing that the tires need to be checked. I'm pretty sure the problem is that we have Toyo Proxys 4 tires that are recommended to be at 45-50 PSI, and the factory tires were only set at 30 PSI.

The material on the door panels have started to come out from under the molding along the windows. I just tuck it back in once in a while.

The driver side visor doesn't stay all the way up. It sits low enough to hit my hat, so I just keep it forward most of the time.

General comments?

Everything, but the cooling system are just little problems that I can live with. I have a feeling that if it is just buildup in the cooling system and not a component malfunction, that it is from the original Dex-Cool in it. I doubt it was ever changed, not to mention the stuff was known to cause problems after it was first introduced.

Other than that though, I love this car. It does everything I could ever want with all of the features I could ever need. Whoever had it before did keep it extremely clean. I haven't seen another one out there that looks this good.

I've had it up to 105MPH a couple times with no problems. It just wants to keep going, but I know better.

It's quick, fun on corners, comfortable, versatile, pretty easy on gas, and looks damn good doing it. Without buying new, I think I found something I can hang on to for a while.
