So far I have had no major problems with this car. I don't know what you are all saying about these cars being unreliable and junk. The only problem I have had is it not starting, sounds big, but all it is, was a lot of corrosion on the battery wires. 20 min of cleaning and its as good as new. Starts up like a dream now. Also the A/C resister pack went around 90k miles, but that's 25$ to buy and put in yourself.
I love the car it works great and has been reliable for all 130,000 miles I have been driving it. My car is not garaged either so it has to deal with the New Hampshire elements year round. It has only cost me around a grand to maintain ever since I got it, this is with regular oil changes. It is a great car. absolutely love it.
P.s. For those who have problems. How you treat your car, effects how the car treats you. Just take that to thought.
WOW!! Finally someone who agrees with me about the Grand Am!! I have an 8-year-old Grand Am SE-1 with the Quad 4 that has been the best car I have ever owned. All I have ever done to it is replace the front brake pads at 70,000 miles (at a cost of $17) and put new tires and a battery on it. I have a cold-air induction system on mine that I engineered and built myself, and it upped the power a great deal. I also installed a set of Khumo 215:60 AA-traction rated tires and that has made it handle much better.
I have never had the window or security system problems I see so many comments about, nor do I know anyone here (in the Sunbelt) who has. Some of my friends have 200,000+ miles on their Grand Ams and have had virtually no problems at all. Mine is like new inside and out, and has not a single rattle or squeak. I also own a 2007 Mustang, and frankly, my Grand Am is more fun to drive. I also have to park mine outside (because we have more cars than we do garage space) and I carefully wax it in the early spring and late October to protect it from the weather. The paint still looks brand new.
