1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America
"Problem ridden vehicle"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The following is a list of problems I have had with my car:
The back seat filled with water when it rained. It took two trips to the dealership for them to fix the problem. The problem was that the manufacturer forgot to put the back panels in.
Replaced the battery at 25,000 miles.
Replaced the water hose and belt at 35,000 miles.
Replaced the brakes at 30,000 miles and 60,000 miles.
Would not shift into overdrive and shifted into second hard. Dealership believes that I will need a whole new transmission. This is at 65,000 miles.
The seals around the window are warped.
The cells for the clock and radio will frequently go blank or show random numbers.
When you turn the volume down the volume will go up first and then down.
General comments?
The longer I have this car the more problems I seem to have. The warranty was up at 50,000 miles therefore the dealership and Pontiac believe that they have no responsibility for all the problems I have been having. I have never heard of a well made car having the transmission go out at 65,000 miles. Most of the miles on the car are highway, there is no reason for the car to be having all the problems.
Other than problems listed above, I love to drive the car. It was the most comfortable to sit in a drive of all the ones I had tested. I bought it because of the comfort and the fact that my grandfather worked for GM. Too bad it has turned out to be a lemon. Due to Pontiac's response I will never buy another Pontiac.
