1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America

Jan 7th 2002, three days after I drove off the lot of Edmark Chevrolet, the water pump went out. Did I buy the extended warranty? Like an idiot, no. I never had a problem with my previous vehicles and thought it was just a way for them to squeeze more money out of the deal. Price to correct... $650 out of pocket.

April 10th 2002, 46,200 miles, weather getting hot and now the air conditioner doesn't work. Doubt it ever did when I bought it since the weather was so cold it seemed like it was. Price to correct... $600 out of pocket.

November 15th 2002, 56,000 miles, started noticing a rapid decline in power steering fluid. Been keeping it filled up every month. Not noticing any leaks, but still finding it disappearing. Am sure this will uncover shortly. Price to correct... so far $8.00 out of pocket.

February 9th 2003, 59,000 miles, car is in shop as I am typing. Car will not shift up past second. Having to take back-roads at 35 m.p.h. Called GM to see if they had heard anything. Only one recall about the console release lever. Computer checked out OK for the electronic transmission and now the mechanical work begins. No charge yet, but estimated around the $500 range if I am lucky.

Although this car has brought a lot of fun to my life, I doubt that I will buy another one. The quality seems to speak for itself in my experiences and also the others.

For the buck that I paid, initially, the car has served to be of great use. I would not recommend this car however to someone not wanting a lot of issues.
