2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE 1 review from North America
"A joy to own and drive"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The speedometer was sticking for a few hours one night, but it hasn't happened again.
General comments?
When looking for a used car I became interested in Grand Am's when a friend of mine told me he had driven his three to five thousand miles a month for almost a year and the only problem he had was the brakes had to be replaced and of course necessary oil changes.
I bought a 2002 SE 3.4 liter 4 door with 20,000 miles on it and drive from Fort Drum New York to northern Pennsylvania approximately 4 times a month at a distance of about 500 miles a trip.
Although I'm a fan a reliabililty over maneuverability and often err grossly on the side of safety and prudence I can't help, but drive this car hard every weekend.
Although I've only put 7,000 miles on it so far I put those miles on it in 2 months and have not felt a difference in the handling or operation of the vehicle, save of course for my rapidly balding tires.
And Ill admit I do not always drive my Pontiac as defensively as my mother or insurance (or the NY state police) might want me to.
Since I spend more time in my drivers seat then I do my couch I am glad that it is the most comfortable car I've ever driven.
It always warmed up quick during the twenty some below winter weather I purchased it during and the traction system helped me to get out of my parking spot without a shovel and some helping hands like most of my coworkers need.
Every aspect of this car pleases me every time I use it.
From setting the cruise control to 80 and watching the north country New York scenery pass by to hugging the Penn State Mountain Twisties on the weekend I am increasingly pleased with Pontiac and General Motors.
If this car continues to give me such performance and reliabililty even after how I've treated it since day one that I drove it off the lot I will definitely consider Pontiac when looking for my next vehicle.
Thank's much, Donald. U.S. Army.
