1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America
"Not much of a deal"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Since I have had this car I have had to do brakes twice. Also I had a lower control arm rusted right through to the point of falling off. Some of my most recent repairs were my lower intake manifold gaskets and ignition wires. My most resent major problem was that I lost all oil pressure, after a in depth inspection of the engine I found that the camshaft was broken into two pieces. Now I must purchases a very expensive new engine. This is my wifes car if I was not a Automotive mechanic I do not think my wife could afford to keep up with the repairs that occur on this vehicle. If some one was to bring this car to the shop the intake gasket would cost about a thousand dollars and as for the engine to have it done in a shop with a rebuilt would be about thirty five hundred dollars or seventeen hundred with a wrecker engine. For most people it would pay to use a low mileage wrecker engine as alot of rebuild shops do poor quality work on the smaller engines, because of the tighter tolerances that the must followed to do a good quality job.
General comments?
All around a good car if you sell them before they reach 200000 km and require any major engine work. The car Drives OK nothing very special... It looks nice..that's about it.
