1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT review from North America
"Performance and reliability bargain"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The exhaust gas recirculation passages clog up with carbon causing a "check engine" light. The dealer then removes intake and cleans carbon out. This has happened three times the past 80,000 miles.
Front brakes tend to wear quickly and warp rotors at the same time.
Power steering has whined for the past five years. Fluid fine just a noisy pump.
Replaced water pump at 55,000 miles and alternator at 85,000 miles.
Engine has developed a faint ticking sound from the hydraulic valve lifters the past 20,000 miles.
Factory CD player quit working after three years, replaced with a Pioneer.
General comments?
The car has been dead reliable. Has never left me stranded in nine years.
Always starts even in sub-zero weather.
Excellent gas mileage, easily over 30 mpg on highway.
Engine is still very strong and transmission shifts quickly and smoothly.
Will cruise comfortably at 85 miles per hour, more than that it seems strained.
The car has never required oil between changes, still on the full mark when changed.
Considering age and mileage, paint and interior or excellent condition. This vehicle has been through nine snowy and cold winters.
Still an excellent vehicle, I kept it after I purchased by 2001 Grand Am GT. I still love the car.
