"A great fun car if you take good care of it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I've only had my car for 8 months and have not had any problems with my car yet.

The only problem I've had are the scratches on my driver side window. Also the window squeaks on ocassions.

The brakes are terrible in wet weather it's hard to stop. I don't feel in control of the car in wet inclement weather.

General comments?

Overall I love my car and plan to take good care of it. I've read many of the reviews and wonder what the driving habits are of these owners.

I think if you have the required maintenance you will not have any major problems. I enjoy driving my car it's great fun car that's an eye catcher.

It's ok on gas milelage, i've had better.

Great acceleration.

I think the Grand Am is a good starter car for the young person like myself.

I have a 1999 Grand Am GT (bought new) that I have had MANY problems with. I take great care of the car... always get oil changes on time, the tires rotated, etc. From year 2 on I have had to have SO many things fixed.

*wheel bearing and harness strap (twice on the same side)

*struts (these do go bad, but not this early!)

*fuel line

*fuel pump

*fuel regulator

*intake valve replaced

*belt (twice)

*battery died after 3 years

*rubbing noise at the tires

*brakes and rotors replaced after 2 years

and these are just to name a few!!!

I have put more money into it and it's not even paid off yet! I would never buy this kind of car again. Nobody else has had these types of problems this early!

Update: As of September 9, 2004 I have 13,300 miles and have not had any significant problems with my car other that a flat tire. The car have performed flawlessly and still runs great like the first day when I got it.

Recent maintenance I've had was an scheduled oil change. I really don't drive much besides back and fourth to work. I've taken it on two road trips to Tennessee and New York and it drives great on the highway.

Update: October 10, 2004 14,000 miles I'm starting to have major problems with my car. I was stranded along the highway when my car suddenly died on me in the fast lane of the highway. Turned out to be a bad fuel pump which was replaced under warranty.

I had the car back two days later and it wouldn't start again, so I had to have it towed back to the dealership this time it was a bad battery which was replaced under warranty.

I get the car back and within a day would not start again so I'm becoming frustrated with this piece of trash now. I'm thinking it may be an electrical problem or the alternator may be bad. All of these problems has occurred all in one week.

Update: February 23, 2005 A few months ago back in October I had to switch dealerships because the one I bought my car from lied and put a used battery in my car and claimed it was new. The new dealership found it was a bad battery.

I now have 17,972 miles no major problems besides the brake pads need to be replaced I hear a slight scrapping noise. It still drives very well. I really don't drive much.

Update: April 21, 2005; 20,018 miles, not bad for 2 years. I have not had any significant problems with my car. The only problem that has popped up is only cosmetic which is small. My tail pipe is starting to rust slightly. I've just came back from a road trip and the ride was great. Great gas mileage still.

I'm planning to change air filter soon.

Routine oil change soon.

Brake Pads.

The VAST MAJORITY of people's complaints on here seem to be due to really poor dealer service!! I've run into similar problems. Our local Ford dealer was terrible and caused more problems than they fixed. We have now switched to GM for both our vehicles and the local GM dealer is rally great. We own a 2001 Pontiac and a 2003 GMC and thus far we have had just about ZERO problems. The Pontiac had the turn signal flasher go out at 34,000 miles and the GMC had a minor problem with the A/C venting control at 40,000 miles. Our dealer fixed both problems free of charge, and we've had no other problems. We're sticking with GM.

I have a 2003 Grand Am GT. 3400 V6. The car has 60,000 miles on it.

At 11,000 had the right front hub assembly replaced (warranty).

At 37,000 the left front hub assembly needed replaced. At 41,000 the intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced.

Have gone through 3 sets of pads and rotors on the front of the car.

1 Set of tires.

Windows are now starting to not go up the whole way, so I have to push them up with my hand on the driver's side.

The car is good to me, but it has nickel and dimed me to death also.
