1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America

"An amazingly fast car that didn't get enough positive reviews"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The things that have gone wrong with my Grand AM SE are

- Computer

- Water Pump

- Inner Tie-rods (replaced because GM said they were done)

- Drivers side window regulator

- Passenger side wheel bearing

- Transmission Rebuilt Twice.

The transmission was rebuilt twice; Once, due to malfunction of some sort (before I bought the car) and the second time was because the "GM certified mechanic" that fixed the transmission the first time forgot to tighten a bolt on the rebuild, and in turn blew out 1st and 5th gear.

This is turn cost me a new clutch, but I was fortunate that I had a 150,000km extended B to B warranty. $2700 in repairs and only a $50 deductible.

General comments?

The car will do 200km/h. I've done in on a few occasion. (just cleaning the carbon out) "seriously"

For a 2.3L D.O.H.C., it has some serious power. On the line this car will take a GrandPrix SE. I have done it.

In all the K's I've put on this car. Hard driving, easy going driving. My car handled very well.

My one major pet peeve I had was the fact that the base model had no intermittent wipers.

At 180,000km. NO OIL LEAKS on the engine. Original Timing chain rattled a bit, but smoothened out when engine temperature was normal.

Picking up speed quickly, I noticed the engine temperature dropped fast. Didn't know if this was normal, but thought of it as a positive measure not to blow the engine.

Just an all around pleasure to drive and definite "puts a smile on your face when you light it up"

I've read some review of how the water gets into the car. From experience; I have a fix. Remove both tail lights on the car and get some exterior silicone and put a thick bead of silicone on the seal of the light housings. This will stop the mysterious water in the car problem.
