1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America
"Falls short of junk."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I replaced the battery at 46,000.
At 50,000 the front hubs went. This WAS covered by the joke warranty.
At 59,000, the power steering pump and rack went. Not covered.
New brakes/rotors at 64,000
64,182, right front coil spring broke in 3 places. Ripped a brand new Yokohama tire in half and bent the strut when it hit the ground. Not covered.
Leaks...floods the back floor when it rains. The water runs down the inside of the door. I've remedied this for the time being by lining the inner door with rubber weather stripping from Home Depot.
The driver's seat does not flip forward when the latch is pulled. I later found a piece of the metal seat lever while vacuuming. It was snapped in half.
General comments?
This car is the pinnacle of garbage. It is cheaply manufactured and it is costly to run. I have a 2 year/24K extended warranty, but absolutely nothing that will go wrong falls under it. GM is useless in helping and the underwriter for the warranty hung up on me twice while trying to get help yesterday for the coil spring problem.
Gas mileage isn't all that great either.
