2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America
"Good car, but Pontiac dropped the ball on quality in many areas"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
All occurrences happened around 50-60K miles.
Intake gaskets leaked coolant. Replaced.
Turn signals didn't work. Recalled and fixed.
Front Struts popping. Replaced struts and strut mounts. Still has some noise. (took the car in several times for this).
Steering box replaced.
Water getting in on passenger floor board. After a long rain I can see water physically running out from the underneath my dashboard.
Fan blower only comes on at 3-5.
Battery replaced.
Water pump replaced.
Drive belt replaced.
Transmission has weird noise when in reverse only. Sounds kinda like a rattle/grinding noise. Sporatic in nature. ANYONE else have this problem?
Driver's seat is not comfortable.
CD player won't turn down when turning the nob. It will get louder before it gets quieter.
I'm sure there is a couple more, but cannot remember off the top of my head.
General comments?
Can't beat the styling and drivability of this car. I love the way it handles and it has the power I am looking for.
There are a lot of little things that should go wrong in a car going wrong with this car.
It was a major step up from my last car and I had zero issues with it for the first year of ownership. (bought used w/extended warranty - has more than paid for itself!!!).
When it started to go bad, it went bad all at once. I spent three or four weeks taking the car back into the dealer for repairs under the extended warranty. I would hate to know how much I would have paid, had I not received the warranty.
I am sort of surprised to see so many negative replies to these cars. I am glad that I am not the only one that has faced the issues with these cars. I will most likely try and get rid of the car now since I have run out of my extended warranty.
Car was a good buy, but now I understand why it came cheap.
