2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT review from North America

"Nice performance, not great reliability"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

-Radiator Leaking Fluid @130,000 KM.

-Front Right wheel speed sensor (part of ABS) @100,000KM.

-Driver power window switch became unreliable @130,000.

-Service Engine Light soon light always coming on, day one issue.

-Driver Seat "Seat Belt" detector flaky, day one issue.

-Wheels make "Grinding" sound at slow speeds, day one issue.

-Wheels could not keep air in

, day one issue.

-Back up light got water leaked into case, @ 130,000 KM.

-Transmission torque converter went @140,000 KM.

-Fuel gauge become unreliable @110,000 KM.-Dealer and GM continues to bold face lie that it isn't a common problem. Even when it has become a common news item.

General comments?

The 2000 Grand AM GT was the first "big" car that I bought. I was immensely proud of it. It handled like a sports car. A lot of "get up and go". Very smooth ride. A great highway driving car. The car is nicely styled inside and out.

I drove to Florida in this car twice and enjoyed every minute of it. And with all these great memories, I was sad to see go... Go down hill that is!!!And see it go to a used car lot. But the truth is I had to let go of it.

It was costing me too much money to keep on the road. I would only recommend this car if you baby it and do not drive it much. I know people who have had no problems with it if they keep the mileage down. I didn't have that luxury. I wanted to make some nice road trips with it. But after about 100,000 KM things began to fall apart.

I have been a GM person my whole life and have been saddened by the whole experience. I hope GM can clean up their act (and/or increase their warranty!) and I may go back.. but not for awhile yet.
