"1 minute of driving excitement, 59 in the shop!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

What hasn't gone wrong! Power steering pulley shaft sheared, seat motor fried (i weigh 150 lbs., not my doing), volume knob psycho, CD player skips, actually scratches CD's, tape player erratic, driver window goes down when it wants if weather changes (have to do quick bump down with switch after raising to release tension on motor), rotors changed 3 times (they go quick. when they do they'll shake your teeth out), caliper bolts fell out on front, fuel tank pressure sensor out (shows no fuel when tank is full), broke 3 rims by hitting small potholes (never had that problem with past 5 cars with aluminum wheels), low coolant light on, but coolant level is good, windows going up and down sounds like excited mechanical party, tires whine (really doesn't like BF Goodrich T/A's), alternator went right after warranty expired, sun visors stuck in place then broke, driver's window leaks, loud road noise from rear (sounds like trunk is open), heater blower motor went out in dead of winter (i drive over an hour each way to work, thanks Pontiac!).

General comments?

This car is an inheritance from my divorce. My ex wanted it and I hated it. I will, never, never, never buy another Pontiac. I have never spent this much fixing a car. There seems to be no support from Pontiac on this crate. This thing was "certified?" CERTIFY THIS PONTIAC! Nickle and dime? Hundreds and thousands! Ask anyone that has a G/A and they'll probably agree it's a comfortable car and good handling car when it runs, but when it breaks, it's down hard. And GM got rid of Oldsmobile? HA! Someone screwed up there.

I purchased my '99 Pontiac Grand Am GT approximately 2 1/2 years ago. I wouldn't have another one as a gift! Within 1 year of purchasing this vehicle, I had to replace the engine and that was only the beginning of my problems. Within the next 9 months I had to replace the fuel pump, the windows on both the drivers side and passengers side, sound as if they are going to break at any time, the electric seat no longer works, the volume on the radio/CD player is extremely touchy, the knob to adjust the mirrors has fallen down inside the door, the sunroof won't open all the way if it's cool outside, and the rack and pinion has just recently broke. I have been in contact with GM regarding all of these problem and of course all they did was tell me how sorry they were that I was having these problems and sent me a $600 certificate off of a brand new car of theirs. They have to be joking!!! I realize when you purchase a used vehicle that you take your chances, but if I had purchased this car brand new they would have considered it a lemon, and 99% of the problems I've had would have been under warranty.

I bought this car about a week ago and already the transmission is slipping, 1st and 2nd speeds on the fan don't work the weather striping is coming off I mean the car is still under warranty and I love driving the car its got all the power you need and then some and the handling is right there too I just don't understand how this car can have soo many problems when the car is still farily new.
