2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 from North America - Comments

"My GT1 is one of the nicest cars I have ever owned"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The brakes have been replaced all the way around twice. But, I drive in stop and go rush hour traffic an hour to and an hour from work.

A headlight finally burned out!

When the brakes were replaced this past month, we had to replace a caliper and a rotor! Big deal, I am constantly having to ride the brakes due to the traffic I am in.

We replaced the serpentine belt at about 45000 miles. It had not broken, but was worn and weather cracked and I was heading out of state with the car.

I have put a set of 4 tires on the car!

I have had to get it aligned and the oil changed!

General comments?

My car is super quick, the RamAir is awesome.

This car was totaled out and a salvaged title was issued at about 30000 miles. It has been a dream for me, even with a salvage title.

I have driven this car from Ohio to Daytona Beach and back once, and from Ohio to Alabama and back approximately 7 times. I put about 500 miles per week on the odometer while driving it back and forth to work. The comfort is good for a small, affordable car.

All routine maintenance that has been done to the car has been just that...routine. Check the faults of the car, all of the work that has been performed is nothing shy of what you would expect from any vehicle that is driven.

I have not been left stranded along side the road with this car.

I would not be afraid to buy another. No wait, I believe that I should add..another Grand Am of the newer body style. I did not care for the body style of the older Grand Am. Of course now the G6 has replaced it, so I do not have much choice. I will keep the Grand Am that I have.

I have thought many times of trading this car in for a new car, but I cannot bear to part with my Am!

The stereo system (stock) in this car rocks. I have gotten many compliments on the sound quality that it provides.

The other day, I drove my boss' Mercedes. Let me tell you, that vehicle was so rough riding, I was very disappointed. I was ready to get back into my Grand Am.

I am 50/50 with my 2000 Grand Am GT. It has it's good days and its bad days. The car has lots of power and I've beat many different vehicles racing with the Am that I never I would, two different mustangs just to name a few. Shocking to me too everybody.

The cars main problem I think is the whole brake system. The rotors are always going out on this thing. Of course I also drive 45 miles to work one way with stop and go traffic the whole way. I had to change a serpentine belt along with the water pump. That was by far the biggest problem I had with it. Another little thing with the car is when I start it sometimes it wants to spit and sputter for about 4 or 5 miles but then quits. It only seems to do it about 5 times a month though. I had the fuel filter replaced along with all the plugs and wires and air filter. It's not a big problem though so if that's the biggest thing that goes wrong with it right now I think I can deal with that.

The car has a great stock system which has had numerous compliments. The car looks like an average grocery getter when its all dirty and grimy looking, but when a nice hand wash it really shines up nicely, especially with those nice chrome wheels.

I love my 2001 Grand Am, and in 70,000 miles all I've done is replace the front brake pads (the rear linings are still the originals). The car has been one of the most solid and reliable cars we've ever owned. It is smooth, quiet and very fast for a 4 (it has the excellent Quad 4 that Pontiac stupidly dropped in 2003).

I was amused by the comment about the boss's Mercedes. My family has owned 2 5-series BMW's and 3 C-Class Mercedes. The only exceptional thing about any of them is the price and ego-inflation potential. I'll take my Grand Am any day.
