"Great for any Mechanically Inclined People"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Power Windows
Water Pump
Other general maintenance issues.
General comments?
This is a very quick car for the price, and it is very easy to work on.
The engineer for this car (3.4L Engine)
was very ingenious in designing it.\
FIXING POWER WINDOWS:
Ok, first I have to tell you that this is a entry level mechanic job
to fix this problem, its takes a little bit of research, and the
worse possible scenario, you will slide away wtihout paying more than
a hundred bucks. If the mechanic at the place you took it to used the
same glue gm used, this will happen again. (GM uses a 3M Glue that
they will not recognize as the problem due to the fact that they do
not want to make 3M look bad.) This glue attaches your glass to a
glove, the glove is attached to the track mount, the track mount is
attached to the cable that pushes your windows up and down. When the
glue fails, this glove falls off the window when you are lowering it,
thus you will notice when you try to roll it up again, this will put
pressure in the wrong spot on the track mount (Which is made out of plastic) and brake it. If this occurs, you will have to buy a new regulator assembly for upwards of 350 dollars from GM Which takes 1
month to produce, or I recommend to get a
used one from the junkyard for 75 bucks. ( I repeat, the assembly is
not the problem, USE WINDOW EPOXY for attaching the glove back to the
window, I used GMs 3M epoxy and it failed 6 months later. This first
time job took me about 4 hours to figure out how to rip the door
apart, which is extremely easy. second time I had toi fix it, it took
me less than 2 hours. One more thing, if your windows glue does
break, DO NOT ROLL IT UP, this will make for a hassle to find an
regulator assembly at a Junkyard, because these things break all of
the time do to GM's 3M crappy glue. Any weird things with the window,
leave it rolled all the way down till you can rip apart the door.
When repairing, you will need to let this glue sit overnight, and use a 2x4 cut to length to prop the window into place so no thieves or rain get into your car.
