2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT review from North America
"High maintenance car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Where do I begin...
1) Faulty flasher - fixed under recall.
2) CD skips, more often in winter- replaced radio twice under warranty. Problem remains.
3) Tire noise - service bulletin.
4) Water leak near HVAC blower area due to poor sealing - service bulletin.
5) Driver seat belt anchor at B pillar - rattle noise from day 1.
6) Blower resistor burned out @ 40K miles.
7) Driver A pillar trim garnish - rattle noise from day 1.
8) Engine does not start the first time - PCM software.
9) Replaced serpentine belt at 57K miles
10) Replaced upper and lower intake gasket at 57K. When the tech at dealership replaced the gaskets, he messed up 10 other items:
a) forgot to screw MAP sensor in place.
B) misplaced ignition wire attachment bracket.
C) forgot to clamp vacuum hose in place.
D) engine oil splashed over wiper cowl screen and engine block.
E) misroute engine harness wire.
F) forgot to attach inline connector onto attachment clip.
G) alternator wire touching engine block.
H) power steering hose too close to engine bolt
i) pot of coolant near the area where tech bleed coolant from
j) engine oil mark on side fenders and door handle.
I guess all the cost saving measures has finally shown up on vehicle reliability.
General comments?
The ride and handling is great. However, the build quality and reliability has been poor. Worse than the older Chevy I owned.
