2004 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 from North America - Comments

"Very fun, yet can be a real pain"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission blew out 3 times - at 2,000, 5,000 and 36,000 miles.

Cruse control stopped working.

Dome light does not light up when the rear passenger side door is opened.

Have lost the entire dash board for random amounts of time.

ABS is acting up causing the entire car to shake during braking.

General comments?

For a little 3.4, the car is very quick. It beats out most other V6 cars that are naturally aspired.

The car handles like a dream. Very smooth ride.

Transmission is rated at 220hp, and all it took for me to reach that limit was a custom exhaust and a cold air intake.

GM decided that it would make the factory radio part of the computer system, so if you take it out of the car, it wreaks havoc on the computer after a while.

3 Transmissions? I can't even imagine the abuse that your putting this car through. The 4 speed hydramat is a very strong tranny. Are you trying to shift it yourself? Oh, and a cold air intake and an exhaust system will not have your car at 220 hp. You've maybe added 10-15 hp. If you really want that kind of power your going to some higher flow heads and a custom tuned pcm, and possibly larger fuel injectors.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you don't really seem to know what your talking about. Your brakes shuddering is not your ABS, its the fact that the pads/rotors are worn. If you remove the factory head unit your need to put in a computer to replace the functions integrated into the deck. That or keep the factory head unit in the trunk and run cables to it. You have basically rendered your car unsafe by not installing an aftermarket head unit properly. Please don't blame the car or the manufacturer for your own lack of foresite.
