2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America
"Nice looking money pit"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fuel pump has had to be replaced twice. Once for breakage and then again because the fuel sensor was not working to indicate correct amount of fuel. This was not due to the bad gas that was in some areas.
Front disc brake calipers had to be replaced at 60,000 miles because the pads would not engage flat on the rotor.
Oil pressure sensor unit has blown completely out causing me to lose all oil and stranded in the middle of the highway thinking that my car had just blown up.
Pass lock sensor has been shorted out twice in the last 14 monthes causing the car not to start because it thought it was being stolen.
The BCM unit has shorted out and had to be replaced, again it left me stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Now it sounds like the turn signals are constantly on and this is after having the turn signal circuit board replaced due to recall. The car has suddenly developed a problem with the air conditioning working for 15 minutes and then shutting off for 2 minutes by blowing hot air and then coming right back on for 15 minutes and then off again.
I have probably spent almost 3000 dollars in repairs over the last 4 years. When it is paid off it gets sold off.
General comments?
Other than the electrical problems that have plagued the car it has held up very well with 2 grandchildren and a teenager driving it part time.
