1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT review from North America
"Mom always told me Pontiac's were known for looks, not reliability"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The heads-up display began to brighten then dim. This problem was never resolved.
The automatic temperature control would report the wrong external temperature, resulting in the system not working correctly (heater or air conditioner would engage at a time resulting in an uncomforable temperature).
The transmission had to be rebuilt due to a faulty electronic control unit that caused the transmission to shift erratically.
After the transmission was replaced, the speed sensor had to be replaced, because the transmission would not engage lock-up.
The car would sometimes be unable to shift into overdrive after long trips.
General comments?
This car handles like a dream, and is a real head turner.
However, I was strongly disappointed with the number of problems I had with it.
I felt an overall reluctance by the dealership to work on it. They told me to do things like "drive the car in third" when it would shudder while shifting.
