1988 Pontiac Grand Prix review from North America
"Nice sack for the cost, just hard to keep on the road"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Tons of stuff:
Engine was replaced before I got it, then I had to do it again in 2001.
Serpintine Belt broke.
Brakes/brake pads were replaced countless times.
Calipers froze at least twice.
Water Pump died.
Alternator died.
Paint peeled horrible.
Seated ripped/torn/fadded.
Door handle snapped off.
Windshield cracked in half.
Lots of rust around the trunk and hood lines (typical places).
Two new exhaust systems (including cadalydic converters).
Struts were shot.
There is more, but I can't remember it all!
General comments?
I love the car overall. For being as old as it was, it drove very well. The fuel pump died yesturday and my mechanic was willing to give me a few hundred for it, so I sold it. After having it for five years I can say that I loved the car overall. I won many drag races, and had tons of good times with friends. It is a very hard car to keep on the road. There were countless times when I was faced with the decision of "do I want to sell it or fix it?" GM didn't do too well when they made it, which is why there is a lawsuit filed against them for it. For a young kid, they'll enjoy it, it's got sack. Overall, just be leary, because you WILL have to replace a lot of parts.
