1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE review from North America

"Reliable car, fair maintenance costs"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Review based on having all (!!!) the service records from the previous owner too, for 12 years of running.

Brakes (calipers, rotors) changed at 80K and 120K, brake pads about 4 years at a time.

Alternator changed at 120K, water pump at 80 and 110K, radiator at 160K.

Cover screws from interior door handles usually get loose.

Rear struts changed at 130K.

General comments?

Buttons tend to brake off, usually can be glued.

No rust or paint damage whatsoever, interior plastic, although seems cheap, holds well. Driver's seat could use a bit more of cushioning. Signaling switch tends to stick sometimes, or fails to release after turn. The more older is the car, the slower is the signaling, observed for other same models too.

Power steering is great, easy maneuvering, holds great in turns.

Acceleration is fair, usually you get better acceleration if you are not flooring the pedal, but rather applying steady pressure. You easily get the extra power when passing, although sometime hesitates to shift.

Still getting about 30-31 mpg on highway, 17-18 mpg in urban traffic.

Maintenance is everything, but try to fix the smaller problems by yourself. (So far I have been at four dealerships, three times they failed to diagnose correctly the problems.)

Spare parts you still can find at junkyards or on line stores, originals are extremely pricey for this model. (Ex: signal switch $54 on line/$114 original, rear lamps $150 on line/$229 original)

Never fails to start (even at -20F winters), w/o engine heater.
