On reading the "Dumpster on Wheels" comments; I have, but one conclusion. The Nut behind the Steering Wheel should have been replaced!
I purchased a 1988 "Le Mans", in September, 1988. It was a "Total-Loss" from an Insurance Auction; and only had 950 Miles on the Odometer. (I owned a Body Shop in Coopers Plains, N.Y. USA). I repaired it, with some Used, but mostly "New Parts"; including a Windshield. It was the 3-Door Coupe with 5-Speed Manual-Transmission, and was also "Loaded" with extras. I drove that car from the end of September 1988 until March, 1989. I only sold it to move back to my "Homeland", Australia. In the six months that I owned, and drove this "Superb" Little Car, I found it Faultless; and "Nothing" failed on it, and I sold in with 16,500 miles on its Odometer. I drove it ONLY in the Winter Months and the everything about that car was "Impeccable". My only regret is that I should have brought it on one of the containers with all my possessions back to Australia, as I would probably be still driving it!
I have always been a Cadillac Driver, and Lover; and I still have one to this day; a 1967 De Ville Convertible (now under restoration). The little Pontiac Le Mans was great do drive, very responsive, extremely rewarding (and very "quiet"), and it served me VERY well and I "Loved" that little car.
I ONLY have GOOD COMMENTS for the 1988 Pontiac Le Mans.
Dare I question the honesty of this review? Three sets of rotors and six sets of brake pads? Four distributor rotors and two timing belts and speedo cables? All in 5,000 miles of driving no less! While it's ideal to give the benefit of the doubt, and the Lemans was an admittedly horrid car, I do find it odd someone would shovel so much money into one or manage to burn through brake shoes every 800 miles- especially when the rotors are mint.
