1991 Pontiac Sunbird LE review from North America
"It's an ugly little car with some problems, but it's not bad for a cheap student/first car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The windshield and windows leak, so whenever it rains, the front seats and floor get soaked. My mechanic couldn't pinpoint the leak, so it didn't get fixed. It was also a problem for the previous owner.
I've had to replace the brake pads twice - once when I had just bought it, and again a few months ago.
The fuses for the interior light and the horn have blown out multiple times.
Last winter, the horn would go off in the middle of the night. It was a horrible blaring sound and would only stop if I started the car and warmed it up for about 20 minutes. (My neighbors hated me!) This was really the most annoying problem I've had with the car.
I had to replace the tires because they were dry rotted.
The serpentine belt was replaced a few months ago.
The fuel lines are rusted out, but aren't leaking yet.
Front passenger side seat isn't adjustable. You can slide it forward, but it doesn't stay. It will slide all the way back.
If I leave the rear defrost on for more than a few minutes, it makes a weird loud noise.
The doors have frozen shut during the winter.
I've had problems with the blinker.
General comments?
This car is slow.
The radio is a really strange shape, so it can't be swapped out. It didn't come with a tape deck or CD player, so it would have been nice if I could replace it.
The car is unattractive. The body and everything about the interior is just ugly.
It's pretty good on gas.
The trunk is big.
The seats are uncomfortable. I added a cushion to the driver's seat because it was hurting my back.
No cup holders!
Overall, this car isn't too bad for a student or as a first car. Mine has lasted me a little over two years and I only paid about $600 for it, so I can't really complain about the money I put into it.
