The dash is separating right above the radio.
Car doesn't like to start in winter.
Rear defrost makes a funny noise after a few minutes of use.
Car runs rough, at times seem as if it will stall.
I purchased this car from a family friend who owns a car dealership after totaling my 1998 Pontiac Sunfire. The mileage was low and the body for the year it is, is in excellent shape.
All in all the car isn't too bad. For being one of the last true Pontiac 2.0 engines, it has get up and go. It gets good gas mileage (27 mph city, 30 mph highway).
There are minor problems, but most of them are due to the fact that it sat around and was only drove 19,000 miles in the last 10 years.
The cabin isn't very comfortable, but once you change out the seats, it's quite comfortable.
About the rear defroster, that is a "function" where it is telling you the thing is overheating and needs to be turned off. Mine does the same thing. Why they couldn't just have it shut itself off, like every other car, is beyond me. Not anything wrong though.
And about the car idling roughly, mine was doing the same thing. Two suggestions: get a bottle of the fuel injector or carb cleaner, depending on which engine you have, as well as some gas treatment, and run those through your system. Not at the same time, but on two separate fillups.
Also, I don't know about the 4-cyl engines, but on my 6-cyl, my idle control valve, I believe it's called, is on it's way out, so when it goes haywire, my engine idles roughly, and in the worst case scenario, it won't idle at all. Luckily, this problem seems to have gone away on it's own, since the part is $60, and you have to get it straight from GM; no aftermarket parts exist.
