1995 Pontiac Sunfire SE review from North America
"Seems like I got the only one that worked great"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The passenger's side window motor burned out and was a pain to replace. The window had fallen out of the track and was stuck 2" from the top. Although the motor was not expensive to replace, just getting to the old motor seemed to be too much work.
The oil filter is difficult to get off. On the model I own, it sits just above the exhaust, so when taken off, you better have something on the pipe or oil will over it. If you have bigger hands or just have the car up on jacks to change the oil, removing the oil filter is not easy.
The car does not always start when needed. It takes 2 or 3 attempts to turn the car over when it is humid or cold out and I have found that it will NOT start when parked on an uphill incline.
Oh, and the car has only ONE cup holder in the front! This is just an inconvenience if you have more than one person in the car.
General comments?
As a college student I needed a reliable car that was cheap. This car came along for $500. I have found it to be pretty good on gas (I'm getting around 35 mpg, but I coast a lot). Although it has higher mileage, I haven't run into any really big problems with the car (all the major parts on the car are original).
Although it doesn't have the get-up-n-go like my 3300 century did, I can still have some fun on the freeway and has much tighter steering. My friend has an ES300 and the sunfire can keep up for the first 45.
I regularly carry 5 people in the car and do not feel anymore crowded than in another small car.
