2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE review from North America
"This car is nothing but a lemon, save your time and money and purchase a different car."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Three days after purchasing the car my moonroof quit working. I took it back to the dealership, but I found out that my 3 year full warranty had expired three months earlier (of course) and so they looked at my car and decided that I needed a whole new moon roof and I was quoted a bill of $1400. I took the car to a different Pontiac body shop and when they looked at it the moon roof decided to open up again and so I put off installing an entirely new moon roof. Three months later, sometimes the moon roof will open and sometimes it won't.
One month after purchasing my car, my water light (I don't know the proper name, sorry) came on and I found out that I was leaking anti-freeze. Every three days I had to refill the tank because it was leaking so bad. I found out that the hose was laying to close to the engine and it had rubbed a hole in the hose the total cost was around $150.
About three weeks later as I was driving into town my air bag light cam on. After reading in the manual I found out that I need to get that serviced because it could cause my air bag to malfunction if I was in an accident or it could just go off while riding down the road.
Not even a week later my engine light came on. So, I had taken that in and asked them to look at it and I found out that it is a purge solenoid in the gas tank. In order to fix this problem you need to have the entire gas tank removed.
I am also looking at a burnt out light bulb in my radio and my moon roof is still acting up. The last person who looked at it said that they feel that it is the switch or relay. I am still trying to get all of this repaired and I have only had my car for a little over three months.
Take my advice and do not waste your money or time on this car. It may look sporty and cute and the price may be right, but you are purchasing nothing but trouble with this little car! I will never in my life own another Pontiac car. Remember in the commercials that they were advertising last summer: What would you do with a new Pontiac (Grand Am or Grand Prix). Let me tell you what I would do with it, I would attempt to drive it off a real steep cliff, but before I even made it to the top I know that the car would just end up dying on me and then I would be responsible for towing it to an auto shop for repairs! And if anyone would like to argue with, please come and buy my little piece of heaven off me and I will go out and buy a dependable well built car and never even blink twice at a Pontiac!
General comments?
Sure the car is cute, but the maintenance is very expensive.
