1995 Pontiac Sunfire 4DR LX review from North America
"If you like to take risks, purchase a '95 Sunfire"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I had this car for about 40,000KM's, I paid onlY $2,000 for it at 204K KM so I THOUGHT I was getting a good deal. This car may have some reliability after you change all the major parts, as I drove it to Newfoundland from Windsor, and back and only had to pay for a new rad before I left Ontario and a new hose that connects the rad to the engine (which leaked in newfoundland). I don't know if this was my own fault, but this car was a solid starter in the winter, and never had transmission troubles. But the negativities underminded the postiive aspects of this vehicle and I would never purchase a Pontiac Sunfire again. This vehicle scares the living spirits from me as I question which part of the car will blow up next.
- Head Gasket blew on me just like everyone else on this board. This caused the car to overheat in the summer when it was left sitting idle and caused the heater not to work at all and not warm up at all in the winter.
- Alternator blew on me driving 50K during rush hour.
- Radiator blew up on me which sparked a fire while I was on the 401 near Pickering, I believe this may have destroyed the head gasket, but I'm not sure.
- Front axcel caved in on me, about the same time as the wheel bearing which burnt my tire to a pulp. This was the last patience I had for this Sunfire, I called the Local Wreckers and gave them the car for free. Probably a good deal for him since I purchased a new battery, rad, alternator, and tires not so long ago!
- Seats are made out of cheap material.
General comments?
I won't purchase a new Pontiac, a used Pontiac, as Pontiac comes with baggage which is heavy. I will soon test the Japanese makes, I see these vehicles are much better reviewed and less troubles occur. I find this car excellent for within city travel, but do not take this car on journies, as trouble will go wrong travelling at higher speeds.
