2005 Pontiac Vibe GT review from North America
"Delightful little gem of a rat-racer, disguised as a practical station wagon"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing. Dead reliable. We had the front end aligned when we replaced the tires at 60K miles, otherwise the only time she's been touched by a wrench is when I change oil or rotate tires. She's never seen a repair shop.
General comments?
She's named BuzzyBaby. No torque, but the Toyota 2ZZ engine winds like crazy, and there is a rush of power when the variable valve lift kicks in at 6200 rpm. The 6 speed really is a jewel, which is good, because performance is a function of RPM, not throttle position. Double-clutch, downshift a couple of gears, hammer it, and grin.
Think Mini Cooper with a nice ride, great headroom, serious interior space, and surprising ability off pavement.
Note: The driver's seat was serious uncomfortable, so I got into the seat back and disconnected the lowest spring. The seats are yummy now. Real comfort for 4 adults, even long distance.
